PETER LAIRD'S
Robot fighting arboreal beast

In much the same vein as Blast #46 ("Alien Snake Hunter") here’s another piece from 1983, the early days of Mirage Studios, pre-turtles. This is also drawn and inked by me, then colored by Kevin in his inimitable fashion on a photocopy. I can't recall what inspired me to draw this particular image, though I suspect my fondness for robots and monsters (and trees) had something to do with it.

I have to say it was something of a surreal experience to watch, for the first time, an animated Fugitoid tell his origin story to the Turtles... and at the very end of the episode, to see a glimpse of a familiar three-horned foe. Coolness!

I don't want to give too much away, but below are three video frame captures I made from my tape of the episode. Sorry about the quality -- my VCR wasn't working too well.

I have to say that after seeing this first part of the opening multi-parter, I can't wait to see the rest. Turtles in space -- what more could you want?

Leo fights one of General Blanque's soldiers.
From the origin story flashback, Professor Honeycutt tries to help his worker robot Sal.
Leo tells the Fugitoid that he'd better jump, or...!
